A Vision for a Thriving Benicia
As we approach the upcoming election, I want to reintroduce myself to you. My name is Lionel Largaespada, and I am running for the Benicia City Council. Having had the honor of serving this community before, my commitment to Benicia’s future has never been stronger.
Benicia is a community filled with potential and promise. As we face financial challenges, it’s essential that we unite with a vision that fosters prosperity for everyone. Rather than relying on temporary fixes, we need to focus on long-term fiscal responsibility and disciplined management of our existing resources. By improving efficiency and making smarter choices, we can deliver the quality services that maintain the vibrant community we all cherish.
My vision for Benicia is clear: a safe, lively, and inclusive community where everyone—residents, families, and small businesses—can thrive. We should aim to enhance our quality of life by addressing essential issues swiftly and effectively. This is entirely possible because we are a small, closely connected community where every voice is heard and valued.
I believe in a city government that is accessible, proactive, and friendly—a City of Benicia that prioritizes customer service and simplifies complex processes. Additionally, we need a well-supported and engaged city workforce that feels valued and motivated.
Our aging population is an invaluable part of our community. By focusing on their needs, such as housing, public transportation, and other essential services, we can create a more inclusive community that honors and supports every generation.
Ensuring the safety and health of our community is also a top priority. We must continue to work closely with Valero and other local industries to uphold high safety standards and protect our environment. By fostering strong partnerships, we can proactively address concerns and ensure Benicia remains a safe and healthy place for all.
I am also committed to housing solutions that ensure responsible development, meeting state mandates without sacrificing the integrity of our community. Buying a home here shouldn’t be beyond our children’s reach, and we can achieve that balance by planning for growth that preserves what makes Benicia special.
One of my main goals is to cultivate a city leadership culture that prioritizes service to our residents and small businesses. Together, we can rebuild public trust in our city government and tackle our most pressing issues: promoting fiscal responsibility, ensuring public safety, fostering sustainable housing, and preserving our rich history.
Economic vitality is crucial for Benicia’s future. By offering incentives for our downtown businesses, we can attract new ventures and stimulate growth. Furthermore, I am committed to maintaining vibrant parks and recreational facilities and planning for future upgrades to serve our community for generations to come.
I know I’ve listed a lot, and I understand that achieving all of this will take time, patience, and resources. But if you vote for me, I promise to spend every day over the next four years working tirelessly to turn our challenges into opportunities—because I believe in Benicia’s bright future.
Sincerely,
Lionel Largaespada
Candidate for Benicia City Council
